Some people dread quitting their jobs.

“I’m leaving them with so much work!”

“This company’s like a family!”

Oh. Does your mom give you performance reviews?

Does your dad try to compensate you as minimally as possible?

Do your family members sleep with each other?

No company is “like a family” unless you work for your family business. And quitting a job should be savored. You should bask in the conversation.

I have a feeling Gladys did just that. Of course she didn’t want to leave her job. But during the final handover meeting, when a staffer asked Gladys who was going to do what when she was gone, I bet a smile crept across Gladys’ face and she said, “that sounds like your problem.”
