My friend Tom and I came up with the idea to ride our bikes from Virginia Beach to San Diego. At the time we didn't know anything about cycling, but the more we joked about the trip, the more obsessed we became.
We biked 80 miles a day for 47 days, camping in fields and parks most nights. We also raised $13,000 for an inner-city school.
